The Zimbabwe eVisa processing time is officially stated as 7 working days by the Zimbabwe Department of Immigration (evisa.gov.zw). In practice, many applicants receive their Letter of Authority within 3–4 working days — but delays are common, especially during peak travel periods.
| Scenario | Estimated Processing Time |
|---|---|
| Standard (off-peak, complete application) | 3–5 working days |
| Official government average | 7 working days |
| Peak season (July–Aug, Dec–Jan) | 7–12 working days |
| Around public holidays | Add 2–3 extra working days |
| Application requires document clarification | Up to 14+ working days |
Real-world note: In July (peak safari season), some travellers have reported wait times of 12–17 working days. One documented case: application submitted July 26, approval received August 12 — a full 17 days — just days before the flight. Apply early, not at the last minute.
This is where most travellers miscalculate. "7 working days" means Monday–Friday only. Saturdays, Sundays, and Zimbabwean public holidays are excluded. That means a "7 working day" window can easily span 9–13 calendar days depending on when you apply.
Rule of thumb: budget at least 12–14 calendar days when planning your application timeline.
The following dates are not counted as working days for eVisa processing. If your application window overlaps with any of these, add the corresponding days to your estimate:
| Holiday | Date 2026 | Day of Week |
|---|---|---|
| New Year's Day | 1 January 2026 | Thursday |
| Good Friday | 3 April 2026 | Friday |
| Easter Saturday | 4 April 2026 | Saturday |
| Easter Monday | 6 April 2026 | Monday |
| Independence Day | 18 April 2026 | Saturday |
| Workers' Day | 1 May 2026 | Friday |
| Africa Day | 25 May 2026 | Monday |
| Zimbabwe Heroes' Day | 10 August 2026 | Monday |
| Defence Forces Day | 11 August 2026 | Tuesday |
| Unity Day | 22 December 2026 | Tuesday |
| Christmas Day | 25 December 2026 | Friday |
| Boxing Day | 26 December 2026 | Saturday |
⚠️ Dates subject to government confirmation. Check zim.gov.zw for any additional gazetted holidays.
The official recommendation from evisa.gov.zw is to apply at least 3 weeks before your travel date. We recommend the following based on your travel timing:
You can check your Zimbabwe eVisa status at any time via the official portal:
Check your spam folder. The approval email (with your Letter of Authority PDF attached) frequently ends up in spam or junk. Check it before assuming there's a delay.
If 7 working days have passed since submission and you have no decision, take these steps in order:
If your travel date is within 5 days and you're a Category B national (USA, UK, EU, Canada, Australia and many others), you can travel without an eVisa and obtain a Visa on Arrival at the port of entry. It is issued on the spot. See our Visa on Arrival guide for eligible countries and costs.
Category C nationals (those required to obtain a visa before travel) may need to postpone if approval doesn't arrive in time. There is currently no emergency walk-in option at the eVisa portal.
Zimbabwe does not offer an official express, rush, or priority processing option for eVisa applications. All applications are handled in the standard queue. Note: some third-party websites advertise "rush processing" — these are third-party agencies, not official government services, and typically charge a premium for the same government processing time.
These 6 steps give you the best chance of fast, problem-free processing:
No. Only Monday–Friday are counted as working days. Saturdays, Sundays, and Zimbabwean public holidays are excluded from the processing clock. A "7 working day" period therefore typically spans 9–13 calendar days depending on which day you apply and whether any public holidays fall within the window.
The Letter of Authority is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. You must enter Zimbabwe within that window. Once you enter, you may stay for up to 30 days (single entry), 3 months (double entry), or 6 months (multiple entry). The stay duration starts from your entry date, not the issue date.
There is no official express or rush processing option. However, many applications are processed in 3–4 working days during off-peak periods. To maximise your chances of faster processing: apply Monday–Wednesday, submit a complete application, use high-quality documents, and disable your VPN when using the portal.
First, check your spam/junk folder — approval emails frequently land there. Then log in to evisa.gov.zw and check your application status. Email immigration@zimimmigration.gov.zw with your reference number and travel date. If you are a Category B national (US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia), you can travel and obtain a Visa on Arrival at the airport — no eVisa needed. Category C nationals should contact immigration immediately and consider postponing if necessary.
You cannot edit a submitted application. You must start a new application — the original payment is non-refundable. If the error is minor and you haven't received a decision, email immigration@zimimmigration.gov.zw immediately with your reference number and the correction. Immigration may be able to amend it before processing, but this is not guaranteed.
Yes. Category B nationals (including US, UK, EU, Canadian, and Australian citizens) can obtain a Visa on Arrival at Zimbabwe's main ports of entry (Harare Airport, Victoria Falls Airport, Beitbridge border). It is issued on the spot and costs the same as the eVisa ($30 single, $45 double). If your eVisa has been delayed, this is your fallback option. See our Visa on Arrival guide for the full list of eligible countries.
